2.0: Rajinikanth and Shankar’s magnum opus adds another Rs 100 cr to budget to accelerate VFX work

The most expensive and also severely delayed 2.0, the follow up to Rajinikanth’s massive hit Robot (Endhiran), is adding another whopping Rs 100 crore to its budget, as reported by DNA.

The movie, made at an estimated budget of Rs 400 crore, will be infused with more money to accelerate the high-end special effects and VFX work, which has been the cause of repeated delays in the completion of the film.

After the movie’s release date being postponed repeatedly, it has now been set during Republic Day 2019. Ironically, the movie was initially touted to release during Republic Day in 2018. There were rumours of disagreement with the VFX company dealing with the high-end special effects and legal action by the makers, to investors instructing Shankar to not start work on his next movie Indian 2 till 2.0 has been wrapped up.

Shankar, is known for his attention to detail and has been unhappy with the initial results of VFX work, and will persist till 2.0 matches international films.

The fresh addition of Rs 100 crore to the film's budget is expected to steer it through the expensive VFX work, and stick to its new timeline to make it to the newly announced release date of 25 January 2019.

The movie is speculated to deal with mobile phone addiction as an issue, as reported by Bollywood Hungama. 2.0 also stars Akshay Kumar (who marks his Tamil debut with the film) and Amy Jackson

Mohanlal to take charge as president of AMMA

Actor Mohanlal will take charge as president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Actors (AMMA). The post became vacant when Innocent, veteran actor and Left-supported MP, resigned after a long reign of 18 years. 

Sources suggest that Mammootty, who was the General Secretary, had decided to withdraw his candidacy. On the last day of nominations on Friday, there was only one nomination for each of the main posts. Twelve candidates have filed nominations for the 11 posts of executive committee members. 

Idavela Babu was elected the new General Secretary and Jagadish was brought in as Treasurer.

The association that was formed as a professional platform for open and healthy discussion for its members and to promote better relations between them, had often run into controversies in the past.

The last of these had been at the time of the formation of the Women in Cinema Collective, that was founded following the attack on a woman actor in Kochi in February 2017. Actor Dileep who was accused in the case was at first welcomed by AMMA, with several members openly supporting him. It was alleged the WCC members were hardly heard in there. But finally, with pressure mounting up from everywhere, the association had to expel Dileep. 

Ganesh Kumar, then vice president of AMMA, had told Kochi Times at the time that while Dileep's primary membership maybe cancelled, he can only be suspended from the association.

The Association will meet formally on June 24, where the officers will take in charge.
